Lieutenant General G A V Reddy, AVSM, SC, VSM, hails from Bengaluru and is a Commerce Graduate from Bangalore University.
The General Officer is an alumnus of OTA Chennai and was commissioned in 9 JAT Bn, in Mar 1986. He has attended numerous military courses to include Defence Service Staff College Wellington, Higher Command Course, Army War College and prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi. He holds M.Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies and M.Phil in National Security. In his illustrious military career, spanning over 36 years, he has held a number of prestigious Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in all the theatres.
In 2002 during his tenure on Line of Control in J & K the General Officer was awarded Shaurya Chakra (SC). He commanded his unit, 9 JAT, from 2004-07 in Highly Active Field Area in J& K and also in Western Comd. He commanded an Assam Rifles Sector and alsowas Inspector General Assam Rifles (EAST), the largest operational formation of the Indian Army
The General Officer has instructional experience in High Altitude Warfare School and Siachen Battle School. He has accumulated varied and vast experience in resources management both human and logistics, during challenging staff appointments to include Colonel (Military Secretary) at HQ 9 Corps, DAQMG of a High Altitude Brigade in Op PARAKRAM, and Colonel Q (Ops) in Southern Command. He was bestowed with Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for his meritorious service as DDG LWE in Army HQ and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) as Commandant, Officer Training Academy, Gaya.
He is a keen student of international relations and is an avid reader of the subject. He has travelled widely including CAR Nations, China, Turkey, East and South East Asian Countries.
He is a passionate horse rider, trained microlight pilot & expert skier who also enjoys gardening.
The General Officer tenanted the appointment of Commandant, Officers Training Academy, Gaya from 31 Dec 2020 to 26 Jan 2022. He has assumed the appointment of DG DIA & DCIDS (Int) in HQ IDS wef 01 Feb 2022.
