Air Marshal Rakesh Kumar Ranyal, VSM has assumed the prestigious appointment of Dy Chief IDS (Med) on 17 Dec 2018. He was commissioned in AMC / IAF on 14 Dec 1983. The Air Officer is a medical graduate of Allahabad University and postgraduate in MD (Hosp Adm) from AFMC, Pune.

The Air Offr has held various key staff appts, as Commandant, Command Hospital Air Force Bangalore, Addl DGAFMS (HR), Dy DGAFMS (HR), prestigious appointment of Prof & Head, Dept of Hosp Adm at AFMC Pune, Cmde Adm & Cdr Tps of CHAFB, Air Officer Commanding, 7 Air Force Hospital, Kanpur and Jt Dir (Medical) ECHS Regional Centre, Secunderabad.

For his distinguished service Air Marshal Ranyal has been awarded Vishisht Seva Medal in 2010, Commendation by Chief of the Air Staff in 1995, Commendation by Chief of Royal Air Force of Oman in 1989 and Commendation by AOC-in-C in 1988.

Academician par excellence Air Marshal Ranyal has 14 publications to his name in national and international journals. He is an active sportsperson who played hockey at National School Level, and a avid Golfer. He loves travelling and visiting historical places especially in India.

The Air Officer is married to academician Mrs Shail Ranyal and has two children. Elder son, Flt Lt Rajat Ranyal is a medical officer presently posted to AF Stn Leh and younger one, Rohan Ranyal, is working with Multinational Financial Company “Morgan Stanley” in Mumbai.
