Lt Gen Atulya Solankey, AVSM, SM, an alumnus of IMA Dehradun was commissioned into 2/11 GR (SHINGO) on 15 Dec 1984, has commanded 5/11 GR (BOGRA) in OP RAKSHAK (J&K) and is presently the Colonel of 11 GR & Sikkim Scouts. The General Officer has vast Op experience having served in varied op envts to incl Op Rakshak, Op Parakram, Op Falcon and UNOMSIL. In a career spanning 37 years, he has held a number of prestigious appointments before taking over as DCIDS (PP & FD), HQ IDS. The General Officer is a recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Sena Medal for distinguished service.
He has attended various prestigious courses including Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) at Wellington, Naval Higher Command Course (NHCC) at College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai and National Defence Course at The National Defence College, New Delhi.
As part of overseas assignment he has served UNOMSIL as Military Observer at Sierra Leone, General Staff Officer-1 of an Infantry Division during ‘Op Parakram’ at Western Theatre, Additional Military Secretary of a Corps in CI/CT operations and Director Operation & Logistics-2 at IHQ of MoD (Army). He has been Directing Staff at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. The General Officer has also served as Secretary National Defence College, New Delhi. His operational and training assignments includes Brigadier General Staff (Operation) of Command Headquarters, Major General General Staff (Training) & Chief of Staff of Army Training Command.
The General Officer has commanded an Independent Mountain Brigade Group during 'Op Falcon', an Infantry Division and a prestigious Strike Corps in the Western Theatre. The officer holds M Phil degree from Madras University.
Happily married to Mrs Vidya Solankey, an Educationist, they are blessed with a son Mr Ayushmaan Solankey.
