Air Marshal Sandesh Prabhakar Wagle VM, was commissioned in the helicopter stream of Indian Air Force in 1984.

He has over 6000 hours of flying on all the operational helicopter variants being flown in the IAF, covering the length and breadth of the country. He has flown extensively in Op Meghdoot in the Siachen Glacier and in Op Pawan in Sri Lanka. He has commanded an attack helicopter squadron in the Western Sector and also in the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he had the unique opportunity to operate with a Pakistani Infantry Brigade.

As an Air Officer, he has commanded Air Force Station Leh, which is the only Air Force Station which guards the Indian Air Space against both our adversaries. He has done two staff appointments at Air HQ; the first in the Inspector General’s branch conducting Operational Readiness inspection of all combats units of the IAF and the second in the Operations Branch, whereas the Principle Director Operations for helicopters, he has overseen the helicopter operations of IAF. He has been Assistant Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff at the Defence Intelligence Agency and responsible for the defence intelligence analysis of all the countries in our immediate neighbourhood (except Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh). In his past appointment, the Air Marshal was on deputation (as AVM) to Border Security Forces as IG BSF where he was in charge of the Air Wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs, consisting of various fleets of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. Presently, he is posted as Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Capability Development) at HQ IDS.

For his distinguished service, he has been commended by the Chief of the Air Staff in year 1988 and Vayu Sena Medal by the President of India in year 2005.

He is married to Gp Capt (Mrs) Jiveksha S Wagle and the couple is blessed with a daughter who is an Ophthalmologist and a son who is an Engineer.
